WHAT TO EXPECT

If your establishment is eligible and you consent to participation in the study, you will be randomly assigned to one of two groups, Before or After.

BEFORE GROUP

- Participants can complete a survey prior to

Safer Bars training


- One hour Information Session


- Attendance of 70% of your patron-facing

staff attendance suggested


- Eligible for free Safer Bars training


- 1 hour total time commitment ​

AFTER GROUP

- Participants can complete a survey after completing Safer Bars training


- Two, 2.5 hour Safer Bars training sessions scheduled 1-2 weeks apart


- Attendance of 70% of your patron-facing staff attendance suggested


- 5 hour total time commitment

ABOUT THE SAFER BARS TRAINING

There are two, 2.5 hour interactive sessions. The sessions are scheduled 1-2 weeks apart. It is recommended that 70% of your patron-facing staff are in attendance. Safer Bars posters and promotional materials are available. This training is FREE!

Trainees will gain foundational knowledge of sexual violence / aggression. We will review basic Arizona liquor licensing regulations and refine participants observation skills, while providing de-escalation strategies.

 

An Institutional Review Board responsible for human subjects research at The University of Arizona reviewed this research project and found it to be acceptable, according to applicable state and federal regulations and University policies designed to protect the rights and welfare of participants in research.
